Not many people know that I worked as a betting shop manager for eleven years and during that time I got quite heavily involved with homing retired greyhounds. "Why is he telling us this?" you might be thinking. Well, over the weekend of the 22nd, 23rd and 24th September Riff Taff is organising a musical fundraising weekend to help raise awareness, in addition to funds, for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT)!
We're working on confirming the bands, all of whom have applied via the Riff Taff Group on Facebook, and giving it a name. For now though here's some dates for your diary:
Friday 22nd September - an evening show at The Gunners Pub, London N5.
Saturday 23rd September - an all dayer (1pm - 1am) event at Poco Loco, Chatham, Kent
Sunday 24th September - another all day event at Bar 42, Worthing, but with an earlier finish time.
All the shows will be entry by donation. We are hoping to arrange for some celebrity supporters and/or ambassadors of the trust to come and make some guest appearances and there will be about 30 bands/artistes taking part over the three shows.
We have requested each of the bands to donate a track which will be put onto a double CD. This will be sold to help raise a bit more and additionally offer the chance of a nice souvenir of the three day event.
So many people are under the impression that greyhounds need loads of exercise and hence they tend to get overlooked when it comes to trying to find them forever homes. The truth is two twenty minute walks is usually sufficient. They are the most chilled out breed imaginable. The term "couch potato" could have been invented for them.
Many of you will also know that a guy from my home town has recently sprung up out of nowhere, is currently winning Brit Awards and playing on American TV shows! So don't forget, as well as supporting a fantastic cause, you never know - you could just come across the next Rag n Bone Man.
